1MDB: People Should Know

The RM42billion borrowed by 1MDB did not just disappear. This is what you got for the money.

1) Bought and owns 15 power and desalination plants in five countries - with a net power generation capacity of 5594MW
- Egypt, Bangladesh, UAE, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Malaysia.
- Largest IPP in Egypt and Bangladesh. Second largest in Malaysia.


2) Building 3 more new power plants
- 2000MW Jimah East Power at Port Dickson (to cost RM11b)

3) Helped reduce IPP power cost to TNB by up to half in 2012 by negotiating for lower rates for existing and new power plants.
- this has helped freeze scheduled electricity price increase in July 2014, Jan 2015 and also allowed TNB to reduce electricity rates in Mar 2015 (first time in history that electricity rates reduced in Malaysian History) with another likely reduction of electricity rates in July 2015.

4) Conceptualized, planned and developed the RM40 billion Gross Development Value (GDV) 70 acre Tun Razak Exchange (TRX)
- expected to attract over 250 global companies, creating 500,000 jobs directly and indirectly
- become a global centre for international finance, trade and services particularly for Islamic Finance
- First Major sale and development is the RM8b project with Australia's largest company, Lend Lease signed in March 2015 - http://tinyurl.com/knqebe2

5) Conceptualized, planned and developed the 495 acres Bandar Malaysia project with a GDV of RM155 billion
- includes connectivity via a 60-90minute High Speed Rail to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur's MRT (one station away from TRX).
- expected to speed up development of Malaysia's southern corridors with satellite growth areas in Seremban, Batu Pahat, Muar, Malacca and Bandar Nusajaya.

6) Buy, build and equip eight new military facilities for RMAF and PDRM costing RM2.7b (http://tinyurl.com/7eduhru )
- including two new airfields – the 500acres RMAF base in Sendayan and PDRM's flying wing in Subang.

7) Planned and purchased land for some 30,000 low-cost and affordable housing projects throughout Malaysia – specifically in Penang (9999 units affordable homes with land cost of RM1.3b http://tinyurl.com/ous4pcj ) and the Klang Valley (20,000 units in Bandar Malaysia).

8) Undertake almost RM400million of CSR projects which include sending some 2,300 people between 2011 and 2014 to fulfil their pilgrimage, the tyre subsidy for taxi drivers under TR1MA 1.0 and 2.0, 15 halfway houses for students in Sarawak , rural electrification and water projects and 1Malaysia mobile clinics. http://tinyurl.com/q225juq
- including repairing old homes for the poor under the Nadi Kasih programme in 2011, which cost them RM90.5 million.

9) Developed and deepened relationships with key Middle East countries – including the Saudi Arabia arrangement that has helped Malaysia increase the yearly Haj quota by 20,000 pilgrims and also helped evacuate students from Egypt.
- Generated interest and attracted tens of billions of investment from foreign countries – particularly from the governments and companies from the Middle East into Malaysia since 2009 in the various 1MDB projects and other non-1MDB projects.
